The Magic of 'Messi'

Messi netted his 51st goal of the Season this weekend with a phenomenal strike against Sevilla... and there looks like there's plenty more to come from the star who's already considered by many to be 'the world's greatest'...

He recently told British Tabloid Newspaper The Sun, "Year after year I've grown and improved, I was lucky to start very young and I always had very good colleagues around me as I was growing up and this has helped me and how I play."

"Even now I think there is a lot more to come from me. I'm nowhere near my peak. I'm still young and still evolving as a player.
"I will never stop learning. Even when I finish playing I will never say: 'I thought I was the complete player' because the older you become the more experience you gain. The older you become, the better you become.
"Under Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, I have learned to play more tactically, which is what I most needed - what my game needed."
"From the tactical point of view it's been about knowing how to stop and think on the field when we don't have the ball. And that makes us better when we have it."

It is unknown to many fans but Messi actually left home comforts of his native Rosario, Argentina at the tender age of 13 yrs before moving to Barcelona. Because of this, he believes that the difficult decisions he had to make as a youngster have helped him become the player he is today and has enabled him to achieve such great heights in world football.

The 24 year old confessed, "I always wanted to play professionally and I always knew that to do that I'd have to make an awful lot of sacrifices."
"I made sacrifices by leaving Argentina, leaving my family to start a new life. I changed my friends, my people. Everything. But everything I did, I did for football; to achieve my dream."
"When I was a kid, my friends would call me to go out with them but I would stay at home because I had practice the next day.
"Nothing has changed since I was young. My friends would go out and I would stay at home."
"But not for nothing, because I knew it had to be that way and, at that moment, I was totally dedicated to football."

Lionel Messi, not unsurprisingly because of his dedication, topped the Football Rich List with an estimated £29.6 million in combined income from salaries, bonuses and off-field earnings.

Naturally Messi is a winner and, as you may expect, he doesn't particularly like losing...

"I am very competitive and I feel really bad when we lose, You can see it in me when we've lost, I'm in a very bad way,"  he said.

FWF Mag decided to Tweet England U-20 International James Wallace and West Ham Player Blair Turgott to ask them what they thought of the ability of Leo Messi - they Tweeted me back saying 'Genius' & 'Unplayable' respectively...

We also got in contact with Journalist Ian Doyle for his thoughts on the magnificent 'Messi'...

  3. Definitely one of the best player in the world. He can finish, dribble, pass, has pace, a good free kick & penalty taker. Manage to stay injury free in recent seasons and hope he will continue to amaze us.

  4. It is not just his skill that makes his the world's greatest player at the moment (and perhaps of all time), it is his humility.

    Excellent article FWF!

  5. Great article. Messi has simply been the best. And with his will to continue to want to improve, look out world. Only thing lacking is World Cup sucess, but with the strides he is making only a matter of time, before that is a distant memory. Looking forward to more articles, like this.

Messi is a really superb player. I mean, he's only 24 years old and he already has a great success in football. I often enjoy watching him play as his dribbling skills are dazzling and I would really grade him 100/100 in almost every game he plays. It is really fascinating how he can dribble his ball from his own half to the opposition's half and make a goal attempt in the opposition's penalty area. However, I do agree that he really needs some improvement in World Cup. The main problem I believe is that in Barcelona, there are Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Busquets and others to give Messi the ball for more goal scoring opportunities. But in Argentina, there's less of these football maestros. If Messi can really improve his World Cup statistics, he will definitely become the greatest player of all time.
