Aguero signs for City

Just a few hours after signing a brand new five-year deal with money-bags Manchester City, Sergio Aguero is aiming for the sky!
Sergio became City’s third signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of 26 year old Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic of Montenegro. On joining the FA Cup winners, Aguero said "I saw the game [FA Cup final] and I think we are a team that in the future will be fighting every year to win major trophies”.
On moving to England and adapting to the electric pace of English Football, Aguero said…"I think in terms of technique the leagues are similar. Maybe the game is more physical in England and there is a greater emphasis on tactics in Spain," he told the Manchester City official website. "From what I've seen on TV there is a high level of skill here. It is quite different but I need to wait for my first game, go out and do my best and find out for real what it's like, because playing is not the same as watching it on TV. I don't think I'll have too many problems settling into the team."

Chelsea follow Arsenal and Liverpool into Far East

New Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas and his squad travelled to Asia to begin their pre-season tour, starting the campaign in Malaysia, a destination already visited by Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.  The trip is the west London club’s first visit to the Far East in three years.

The Chelsea squad lacked any new faces, but still possessed enough quality to attract a big crowd to Kuala Lumpur, with the official attendance of 84,980 believed to be a record number for a Chelsea friendly match.

End of a Vi-era

Footballing legend Patrick Vieira has hung up his boots after a sensational playing career spanning 18 years. Emerging from the Cannes youth system at 17 years old, Vieira went on to become one of the most formidable midfielders in World football.

In a statement released on Manchester City’s official site it was revealed that Vieira has accepted an executive role at the club after announcing the end of an outstanding career that yielded one World Cup, one European Championship, three Premier League and four Serie A titles.

The 35-year-old former France international was released from his playing contract at City at the end of last season, making 45 appearances in total. His last came as a late substitute in City's FA Cup final win against Stoke City in May.

Lucky Number Seven…?

David and Victoria Beckham welcomed their fourth child into the world recently at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. A baby girl for the pair who already have 3 sons: Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, 8 and Cruz, 5.

Breaking the news on 10th
July via his Facebook page, David wrote: “I am so proud and excited to announce the birth of our daughter Harper Seven Beckham. She weighed a healthy 7lbs 10oz and arrived at 7:55 this morning, here in LA. Victoria is doing really well and her brothers are delighted to have a baby sister xx."

Pre Season Round-Up: Arsenal in Asia

Arsenal have a history of touring Asia since the 1960s, and their latest trip ahead of the new season gave many overseas supporters a closer glimpse of their heroes. The Gunners squad for the Far East visit may have lacked any major new signings, or indeed skipper Cesc Fabregas, but the presence of international stars such as Robin Van Persie and Jack Wilshere will have softened that blow for local Arsenal enthusiasts.  In addition to the first team regulars, Japanese teenager Ryo Miyaichi was also included after impressing in training, and he was joined by fellow youngsters Carl Jenkinson and Emmanuel Frimpong.

The first destination for the London side was Malaysia, and Kuala Lumpur.  After a few days of training, and providing the locals with signing sessions, Arsenal took to the field for the first match of their tour on Wednesday - facing a Malaysia XI at the Bukit Julil Stadium in front of almost 70,000 spectators.

A Former Liverpool player has become Fulham’s second signing of the close season. New manager Martin Jol followed up his acquisition of Hungarian goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi with the impressive capture of Norwegian left back John Arne Riise from Italian side Roma, for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old international, capped 96 times by his country, played for Liverpool for 7 years between 2001 and 2008, making over 200 appearances for the Club. He also became renowned for his thunderous left foot and scored some memorable goals, generally from free kicks, during his first spell in England. He joins his younger brother Bjorn Helge Riise, who has been at Craven Cottage since 2009.

Pre Season Round-Up: Liverpool in Asia

Kenny Dalglish and his Liverpool side, including new signing Charlie Adam, were given a fantastic welcome upon arrival in China. As they made their way to the team hotel, the players and staff were met with large Chinese Dragons, all of which were a very fitting bright red.

There was also a tremendous atmosphere in Guangdong for Liverpool‘s opening match of their tour, as The Reds faced local side Guangdong Sunray Cave, also on Wednesday.  The game’s opening goal came from an unlikely source, as Christian Poulsen volleyed in at back post following a cross from Joe Cole to give The Reds the lead.  David Ngog added a second, sliding under the keeper to give his side a cushion with just over twenty minutes played.  But a quick counter attack from the home side allowed them to pull a goal back just before half time, and the stadium erupted as Columbian Ricardo Steer bravely headed into the Liverpool net.

Arjen Robben “Bayern can win Champions League”

Here come the girls!!!…

Congratulations is in order for the two Women’s World Cup 2011 finalists, Japan and USA. Japan came back from 1-0 down to beat Sweden 3-1 to secure their place in the final. USA beat France to seal their place in the Final, having been there twice already and winning the tournament in 1991 and 1999.

It's not just the Copa America going on at the minute, the Women’s World Cup tournament in Germany has received just as much media attention. It has been a fantastic spectacle and the final is set to receive hundreds of thousands of viewers from around the globe.

It’s unbelievable to think that in 1920 53,000 fans turned out at Everton’s Goodison Park to watch St Helen’s Ladies play Dick Kerr Ladies!

It would be fantastic if the 48,817 capacity Frankfurt stadium is full for the final.

Good luck to Japan and the USA. May the best ladies win!
